Fight for freedom

Tuesday, June 10, 2014

SODELPA youth president Peter Waqavonovono says youths have not lost hope in regaining a truly democratic Fiji.

Mr Waqavonovono said the young people of Fiji were not fooled by false promises.

"The youths of Fiji are not stupid, they have seen their youth leaders tortured, blacklisted from consultative forums, put on travel bans and they remember the times when dissension was forced underground," he said.

Mr Waqavonovono believes freedom cannot be bred overnight.

"This coming election, we have told our young people to gather the strength to fight this battle with us.

"They need to stand up with us and be active.

"Regardless of their gender, age or ethnicity, we all have a part in deciding whether we want a government that will entrench the coup culture or a government that will work to erode the elements that have entertained the coup culture."
