WELLINGTON, AAP - Expatriate New Zealander Kali Meehan knocked his opponent out in the final to win an eight-man heavyweight boxing tournament in Auckland.

Sydney-based Meehan, 44, put England's Michael Sprott on the canvas in the first round of the final

Both had won through by winning their first two fights of the Super 8 elimination on Wednesday.

Meehan, who hadn't fought for two years, accepted a winner's cheque of $NZ200,000 ($F309,838).

There was an upset in the first of seven three-round fights when 41-year-old former world heavyweight champion Hasim Rahman of the United States lost to New Zealand's Antz Nansen on points.
