Fishermen back at home

THREE Batinikama fishermen who were reported missing by their family members early this week have been found.

This was confirmed yesterday by police spokesman Inspector Atunaisa Sokomuri who said the trio were rescued on Wednesday afternoon.

"The three men are now back in their homes with their loved ones.

"The police search team located them between Celrock and Yalewakalou off the Bua waters," he said.

"One of the men kept in touch with his wife and this helped the team locate the missing boat.

"Even though they were away from home for three days, none of them sustained injuries or suffered health problems.

"They were all in good condition."

Insp Sokomuri said the situation prompted police to issue fresh reminders for people to always ensure their boats were in good condition before going out to sea.

"Check the engine and the other parts of the boat and always ensure the necessary items are available.

"It's also important to carry your cellphones with you because it's handy.

"Mariners are also advised to adhere to weather warnings and not go out fishing during bad weather."

It was earlier reported that the boat the men were travelling in developed engine problems.
