Viria Blues aim for victory in final title challenge

THE Viria Blues rugby side is brimming with confidence ahead of their Sautu Trophy defence in the Naitasiri North Bulls club competition today.

The KKBL-sponsored titleholders face newcomers Police Eastern in the last challenge match of the competition at the Naluwai grounds in Vunidawa.

Team manager Filipe Vulaono said their 16-9 win over Seniyasi last week gave them momentum heading into the final challenge match.

"We saw them play last week when Police lost to Rara Black in their first match in this competition," he said.

"So looking at their game and looking at our game, we are very confident of beating them tomorrow (today)."

Vulaono said Police Eastern would give them the type of challenge they were looking for.

"We have been unbeaten in this competition and we need a new challenge.

"Police is a new side and we are glad to face them because it would be a different challenge for us compared to the past teams."

He said the weather would play a huge role in the match today.

"Two weeks ago the games were postponed because of bad weather but we don't mind playing in wet weather.

"However, playing on a wet ground will affect our game plan so we are hoping to play good running rugby on a hard and good pitch."
