Council to reclaim land

Friday, May 30, 2014

THE Lautoka City Council is working with the vanua of Vitogo to reclaim 70 acres of the foreshore area — from Marine Drive to Namoli Village.

Special administrator Praveen Bala said the first stage of the process was in progress and every step of the project would be done in consultation with the traditional landowners.

"The first stage is an environment impact assessment and we have appointed a consultant to carry out this work," he said.

"As prescribed by law, we have advertised the proposal to carry out the foreshore reclamation and I want to make it very clear from the outset that the traditional landowners will be consulted every step of the way."
