HIV/AIDS scare for women

Salaseini Moceiwai
Thursday, May 22, 2014

THERE'S a high chance for women whose husbands have multiple partners to have HIV/AIDS because they are usually denied the opportunity to negotiate safe sex.

Fiji Women's Crisis Centre executive director Shamima Ali told northern police personnel at the Labasa Scouts Hall yesterday that this was common in marriages.

"It's difficult for women to negotiate safe sex with their husbands if they know that they have multiple partners," she said.

"Say if men travel overseas or any other place for that matter and return after some time, it's going to be difficult for their wives to influence them on safe sex because they can't overrule them."
