Quality cane payment

CANE growers who grow, harvest and transport high quality crop will be compensated accordingly under the cane quality payment system, says Sugar Industry Tribunal commissioner Tim Brown.

Under the traditional payment by weight system, growers receive 70 per cent of proceeds and the Fiji Sugar Corporation 30 per cent.

Mr Brown said this payment formula would continue when the cane quality payment system comes on line next month.

"The way we want to do it is if everything is normal, then a grower gets 70 per cent and the miller, which is FSC gets 30," he said.
