Boat owner denied bail

THE owner of the outboard motor vessel involved in an accident that resulted in the death of an Australian tourist last week was refused bail by the Nadi Magistrates Court.

Jimi Bete appeared in court yesterday charged with one count of manslaughter and one count of criminal recklessness and negligence.

According to the court, Mr Bete was transporting the deceased, Mark Timothy, on his vessel Gaunavou when it collided with an oncoming boat in Mamanuca waters on May 15.
