Quality system not new

Felix Chaudhary
Saturday, May 17, 2014

FIJI pioneered the development of the cane quality payment system currently used in the Philippines and Vietnam.

And Sugar Industry Tribunal commissioner Tim Brown says the system would have been implemented more than a decade ago had it not been for a change in leadership at the Fiji Sugar Corporation.

"Many people think that the cane quality payment system is new," he said.

"And they will be very surprised to know that the system has been in the Lautoka mill since 1999."

The Prime Minister announced the establishment of the cane quality payment system in 2012 and allocated $4.4million in the 2013 budget towards the project.
