11-year jail term for rape

Update: 3:36PM A 44-year-old man who raped his 16-year-old stepdaughter on two separate occasions has been handed an 11-year prison sentence.

The man appeared before High Court judge Justice Sudharshana De Silva in Lautoka on Thursday, charged with one count of sexual assault and two counts of rape.

A permanent domestic violence restraining order was also put in place and the accused will not be eligible for parole until he has served 10 years in prison.

 He has 30 days to appeal the sentence.
