Sapra seals deal

FIJIAN fashion designer Sonam Sapra has landed her first international export order for her Intimate Fiji label which she collaborates with Intimate Apparels Fiji.

Ms Sapra confirmed the order from Samoa went for a total of $800 for 140 sets from her resort wear collection which will be launched at this month's Fiji Fashion Week on May 29.

"They (buyers) came to the factory to do their own orders and they saw the bathing suits and started asking about it," Ms Sapra said.

"From there Mr and Mrs Wanarajan who own Intimate Apparels Fiji and who are my partners for Intimate Fiji label sealed the deal.

"It feels really good, but honestly I am not letting it get to me or think about it too much because I was talking to my father and he said just remember this sale is just barely scratching the surface.

"So if I can get one done, it only guarantees that there can be more but that requires me and Intimate Apparels Fiji pushing for the buyers. We just got lucky that these guys walked through the door and hopefully there's going to be many more like that."

FJFW managing director Ellen Whippy-Knight said what Ms Sapra and Intimate Apparels Fiji had achieved was a milestone for FJFW.

"This is an absolute milestone for FJFW in terms of what its objectives are, it's being met and it's also an indication of what hard work can do because Sonam is a hardworking person," Ms Whippy-Knight said.

"Since she came back from America she's just been plying her trade and really working at it.

"She's somebody that doesn't just talk the talk but she really walks the talk and she really gets out there."
