Asthma attack

Ana Madigibuli
Saturday, May 10, 2014

ASTHMA is a disease that is always considered to be a forgotten non-communicable disease.

And many around the world do not realise that it falls under the NCD category, says NCD national adviser Dr Isimeli Tukuna.

Dr Tukana said many did not talk about asthma compared with other diseases and people needed to create more awareness on how it could be controlled.

He said three emerging issue for the ministry were cancer, asthma and rheumatic heart diseases. He added that people needed to focus on changing their lifestyle and Fiji really needed to hear about this and understand it.

"There is always free treatment for asthma and the bulk of medicine to be used are there but we need asthma patients to use their medicine and to learn to control it," Dr Tukana said.
