Former reps help Tailevu

THE influence of former reps in the Tailevu rugby provincial team will inspire the new generation of players against Vakutkoula in its Skipper Cup clash today.

The presence of former Flying Fijians coach Inoke Male, Alifereti Mocelutu and former skipper Jone Kaila among the new breed of Tailevu players has been a huge boost to the green machine.

After losing top players such as Leone Nakarawa, Eseria Veuti and others, the inclusion of Male, Mocelutu and Kaila in the coaching panel has come in the right time.

Male was named the head coach of Tailevu this season and is assisted by Mocelutu and Kaila.

Yesterday, Tailevu Rugby Union president Maika Rainima said he sought the availability of Male because of his experience.

"Male, Mocelutu and Kaila have all represented Tailevu and they know the system of the union inside out," he said.

"I asked Male to come and coach the team because of his knowledge of coaching Fiji and experience of playing top level rugby.

"I want them (Male, Mocelutu, Kaila) to impart their rugby knowledge to these young players because we have lost most of our top players who are now serving in the Middle East."

Rainima said today's game against Vatukoula would be a huge test for the young players.

"We have a young team and our plan is to develop a core team for the next two to three years, that's our development plan.

"Tomorrow (today) the game against Vatukoula will be a test for the young players.

"We have prepared well and we're looking forward to the match." Tailevu won its opening clash against Lautoka 9-7.

The Tailevu and Vatukoula match kicks off at Nausori's Ratu Cakobau Park at 3pm.
