TOP class fights are scheduled in the Naidiri Boxing Promotion to be held at Nadi's Prince Charles Park on Saturday.

Sponsored by Sigatoka Electric Limited the program will feature some of the country's top boxers such as veteran Mosese Kavika, Opeti Tagi, Sailasa Moko, Napoleon Taumoepeau and Abhay Chand.

Naidiri boxing promoter Mohammed Rafiq said the program was the start of boxing revival in Fiji.

"This will be the first boxing program to be staged in Nadi after 15 months," said Rafiq.

"This program is the first of many to come and our aim is to revive the sport.

In the main bout, Naitasiri boxer Opeti Tagi will challenge the Fiji Boxing Commission middleweight title from Nadi's Abhay Chand.

Lautoka's Wahid Khan will battle against Nadi's Sailasa Moko in the main supporting bout while 43-year-old Mosese Kavika will fight Suva' Napoleon Tamaepeon in the heavyweight catergory.

Rafiq has called on the people in the West to come out in huge numbers and support the sport.

He said the objective of the tournament was to expose Fijian boxers to competitive fights.

"We have produced some of the best boxers in the 70s and 80s."

"Our target is to host more programs where we can identify new talents and groom them to become better boxers."

Rafiq also thanked the following sponsors for supporting the boxing revival program.

The sponsors include Sigatoka Electric Limited (main), Foodhall Supermarket Lale's Millennium, M.Recht Accessories, Sigatoka Motor Spares, Sportsworld, BL Naidu and Sons, Navosa Hardware
