SACRIFICING Easter weekend to focus on the weekend's Fiji Secondary School Athletics finals, paid off in full for Merelita Tuilawaki of Namosi Secondary School.
Tuilawaki won gold in the senior girls 800metres final, retaining the title she won last year, stopping the clock at 2 minutes, 27.61 seconds.
She decided to celebrate the Easter weekend at the team's camp, a sacrifice, she said was worth the sweat.
"I want to thank my parents for allowing me to spend Easter weekend away from home and be with the team at our camp," she said.
"It was a worth the sacrifice to win this gold medal. It's tough to come and defend the title but I knew from the beginning that I can repeat my performance of last year today (yesterday).
"I came here to defend my title. I knew the competition will be tough especially from Jasper but I believed in myself and gave it my best shot."
The 20-year-old of Navunibau Village from Namosi grabbed her second gold medal when she helped her team upset Jasper Williams High School in the senior girls 4x400m relay final.
Tuilevuka acknowledged her coach and teachers and all supporters for their tremendous support for the team.
Finishing second behind Tuilawaki, was Tokasa Tevu of Vunisea Secondary School and Salaseini Muakalou of Jasper Williams was third.
