Jasper's Naidau scoops first gold

Update: 11:31AM Mereseini Naidau won the first gold medal on offer in the 2014 Coca-Cola Games at the ANZ Stadium this morning

The Jasper Williams High School student from Lautoka won the event after clocking 5 minutes 01.82 seconds.

She ran a perfectly planned race to come out from the middle of the pack in the last 200 metres to power home and retain her Open Girls 1500m title.

Vasenai Ratu of Nadarivatu and Sereana Nai of Vaturova finished second and third, respectively.
