Raiwaqa White keeps touch unbeaten run

THE Easter Monday Touch Carnival was hailed a huge success as organisers claimed they met their respective objectives.

Competition organiser Tevita Mau said seven teams competed and made the most of the Easter Monday holiday.

Raiwaqa White overcame Laucala Knights 4-3 in the final at the USP grounds and remains unbeaten in the tournament.

"From the outset, the participants enjoyed the competition and we saw some young talent introduced into the touch arena," Mau said.

"It should not come as a surprise that some of these budding talent will be holding the fort for the sport of touch in years to come.

"Special mention goes to the small and nine-year-old Saimone Uluimoala who was punching well above his weight and competing in the open grade.

"He is destined to continue the legacy of the Uluimoala family who have donned the national colours with honours."

Mau said some teams really had improved since the last competition — the USP Touch Association business house.

"Raiwaqa Blue comprising of FRCA staff is a special mention in this category.

"Under the tutelage of Inoke Versa, they have come by leaps and bounds and will continue to be a force in time to come."

Mau thanked USP Recreation Centre manager Mark Fung and Fiji Touch Association president Georgina Lasaqa for their support.

He said the USP Touch Association would host clinics and games for kids aged between 10 and 16 years at USP during the school holidays.
