Karmen returns to stage

THE first performance of the stage musical Karmen was held last night at USP's Japan ICT Centre.

The re-stage of the 2009 opera musical by Igelese Ete and Larry Thomas received an overwhelmingly positive response.

The story, set in Suva, is still about Karmen, a seductive woman who disrupts the established order of a community. The story, however, contains a much more Fijian feel.

Ete has reworded some of the arias to be relevant and appropriate to Fiji. The public shows will begin today until May 3 at 8pm at USP.
