A 24-YEAR-OLD man appeared in the Labasa Magistrates Court yesterday for allegedly trying to rape a 14-year-old student over the Easter weekend.

Police confirmed the young girl was alone at home with her younger sister on Saturday night when she was allegedly grabbed by the accused who had allegedly broken into the home.

The court heard the man allegedly tried to rape the young girl who struggled to fight off her attacker.

The teenager managed to escape and screamed for help, the court heard.

It heard the girl was able to identify the accused when she turned on the light of the house and saw the accused's face before he escaped.
