Waiyavi wins on debut

WAIYAVI won the Andhra Sangam Soccer Championship at Govind Park in Ba on Sunday by defeating Nadi 1-0 in the final.

The side remained unbeaten in the tournament.

Waiyavi beat Sanasana 3-0 in the quarter-final and Suva 5-2 in a penalty shootout in the semi-final.

This is the first time for the Anand Rao team to participate in the tournament.

The team was founded by Dineshwar Gounder with the support of the Waiyavi temple organisation.

Gounder thanked the players and hardworking executives for the win.

"The victory is sweet on debut," he said.

"The players went into the tournament with a lot of confidence."

Gounder received the youngest Administrator Award while Waiyavi won the Best Team and float award.
