Stockpiling for first shipment

XINFA Aurum Exploration Fiji Limited has started stockpiling bauxite for its first shipment this year.

Company executive Derek Qiu said stockpiling was progressing well in their mine in Bua.

Mr Qiu said since January, the company had been preparing a shipment of bauxite to China.

"Our plans have been affected by the adverse weather conditions that have been besieging the Fiji group since the beginning of the year," Mr Qiu said.

"Rain and wind continue to be the element that are really uncontrollable.

"This year alone Fiji has been besieged by thunder and weather storms and also two to three cyclones that have threatened the shores of Fiji."

Mr Qiu said since the company began operations in 2011, there had been no work stoppage apart from those related to the weather and Christmas break shutdowns.

"Work continues unabated in the mine, taking into account the targets set out by government for export earnings in one year.

"We are taking these plans seriously and will continue with real dedication and seriousness."
