ABOUT 200 Sikhs from Lautoka gathered to celebrate the annual Vaisakhi at the Gurudwara (Sikh temple) at Vitogo Parade on Monday.

The Vaisakhi festival observed by Sikhs all over the world on April 14, celebrates the founding of the Sikh community known as the Khalsa in 1699 in the city of Anandpur Sahib in India.

Farmers dominated the celebrations at Lautoka temple.

Temple secretary Prem Singh said the farmers had celebrated after harvesting their crops, which they presented at the event and also by singing and dancing.

He said the Vaishaki was also observed in Tavua, Labasa and Samabula in Suva on Monday.

Sports activities were also organised.
