OLAF Allen Jr will face a stiff challenge when he defends the postponed Srixon Cleveland Fiji Amateur Stroke Play Championship which starts at the Natadola Bay Championship Golf Course tomorrow.
Allen Jr is in top form winning nearly all the events that he has participated in but this weekend's 54 holes competition will be a different story.
Anuresh Chandra, Abid Hussain, Mohammed Faiyaz and Roneel Prakash will be out to dethrone Allen Jr.
The tournament will serve as another trial for the players vying for a spot in the Fiji team for the World Cup in Japan in September.
Allen Jr leads on points for selection followed by Hussian, Vijay Krishna Singh and Prakash.
National Golf Association of Fiji secretary Amitesh Chandra said the competition would coincide with the annual team's championship.
Amitesh said Allen Jr was in fine form and was a frontrunner for the national team.
"The players will be playing from the championship tees and this should make it really interesting for them to strive to meet the benchmark score set for Nataodola," he said.
"The onus is on all players to perform as only the very best will be awarded points so each player has his fate in his own hands. The national training squad members will also have a team building exercise prior to tee off."
Nadi will defend the team's championship which they won in Suva last year.
he Jetsetters will have an upper hand as they have a number of players from the national elite squad.
Ba, Suva and Lautoka will pose a threat to the highly fancied Nadi team.
