Advice on stage fright

DO not show fear. That's the advice from reigning Miss Teen Model Mykaela Powell to the 20 finalists vying for the title this year.

Ms Powell, who made her debut on the Fiji fashion runway at the age of 13, won the competition when she was 14 years old.

"The Miss Teen Model Competition definitely builds confidence, it's a great platform for young girls and the experience is fun," Mykaela said.

She said cynicism and criticism were all part and parcel of a teen model's journey and personal guidelines that every young model should have and stick to.

"If anything, I would advise the girls not to show their fear, it will ruin everything."

She said strong support as well from family and friends, especially her mother, helped her modelling career get off the ground.

Meanwhile, one of the judges Asvin Singh said the top 20 finalists brought a lot of diversity to the competition.

The Miss Personality round of the competition is expected to be launched later this week on the social-networking site Facebook.

The final of the Nivea-sponsored competition will be held on April 12.
