Test for school athletes

SCHOOLS and athletes preparing for the zone competitions later this week participated in the Athletics Fiji-organised weekend competition at the ANZ Stadium in Suva yesterday.

Competition official Maciu Koroitamana said they were overwhelmed by the athletes' turnout.

"Most of the schools that are preparing for the zone brought their athletes to test them here," he said.

"The competition was a good platform to gauge the athletes and it also gave them a chance to test themselves against opponents from different schools."

Koroitamana said senior athletes such as Eugene Vollmer and Banuve Tabakaucoro also participated in the competition.

"The senior athletes are building up for the Pacific Games and they are engaging in regular competition.

"This was a chance for them to test themselves against the secondary school students preparing for the zone.

"And for those students, it was a good opportunity to compete against these senior athletes so they know the level they are in."

Koroitamana thanked the schools and parents of the athletes for allowing them to use the weekend competition as a build-up.
