Chand in top form, wins again

FORMER Fiji number three Nitesh Chand maintained his form, winning the Six Reds League round one competition at the South Seas Club in Lautoka on Wednesday.

Chand defeated 2009 veterans' champion Philip Gock 1-0 in the final.

It was Chand's second victory in less than a week, having won the Lautoka Club round one event last Friday.

In the semi-finals, Chand beat Suresh Chauhan 2-1 while Gock defeated Navneil Maharaj 2-0.

In the quarter-finals, Chand downed Raymond Reddy 2-1, Maharaj upset Tony Cen 2-1, Gock defeated Raj Mani Pillay 2-0 while Chauhan beat Rajinesh Nand 2-0.

Chauhan beat Maharaj 1-0 in the third and fourth place play offs.

Chand leads the South Seas Club competition with five points and is followed by Gock with four points, Chauhan with three points, Maharaj with two points and Pillay and Nand with one point each.

The second round of competition will be played at the Lautoka Club this evening.
