Oncology gift for hospital

PACIFIC Destinationz, a Nadi-based award winning inbound travel and transport management company, yesterday gave equipment to the Lautoka Hospital's oncology unit.

The gift consisted of a three-tier stainless steel trolley, a DVD Hi-Fi micro system and stainless steel wash basins.

Company human resources manager Emele Tuilagivou said the gift was the outcome of the company's Pinktober initiative from 2013 when staff raised funds through weekly morning tea sessions with guest speakers throughout the month of October.

The gift idea for the Pinktober program was initiated by the company's director finance and operations, Lala Sowane, a breast cancer survivor since 2008.

Pacific Destinationz managing director James Sowane said they were humbled to be able to fundraise and assist the team at the oncology unit.

He said all credit must go to his hardworking team and their families for backing the idea and organising weekly morning tea sessions with guest speakers who addressed the staff on cancer awareness.

Oncology onit officer-in-charge Sister Ana Raramasi helped identify the items needed for the ward.

Resident unit doctor Dr Luisa Rauto said such gifts went a long way towards improving services for the hospital's cancer patients.
