D-day for man on rape charge

ASSESSORS at the High Court in Suva unanimously returned a not guilty opinion yesterday in the case of a man alleged to have raped a girl he was dating two years ago.

But Josefa Cakau must wait until today for the ruling of the judge on whether he agrees with the assessors.

In his summing up, Justice Prabaharan Kumararatnam said Mr Cakau and the complainant had known each other since 2011.

He told the assessors the complainant admitted she reported the matter to the police only after the accused denied he had any feelings for her.

The judge will deliver his ruling today.
