THE International Women's Association has played the lead role in transforming a medical clinic into a wellness centre for women.

IWA president Bubby Mohan said the association raised $80,000 at its Valentine's charity event in February last year to kick-start the project.

Mrs Mohan said the committee members met Health Minister Dr Neil Sharma for his guidance on how to utilise the funds to gain maximum impact in providing better health facility for women and girls.

"We went into this project with the basic idea of renovating and improving the facility, but thanks to the additional support we received in cash and kind from numerous corporate bodies, businesses and individuals, it has culminated in this success story," she said.

Mrs Mohan said the association faced hurdles along the way which delayed the project a bit but they overcame it all, resulting in the opening of the centre on Friday.

"This clinic is a remarkable example of generosity and community collaboration which has provided a world class women's reproductive health service facility in Fiji.

"We hope you will continue to play a role in our relentless pursuit towards making this world a better place to live."
