Police probe own after alleged assault

Update: 6:31PM A MINOR taken in as a suspect in a theft case was allegedly assaulted by officers at the Lautoka Police Station.

The alleged incident has prompted the Acting Commissioner of Police, Ravi Narayan to order a full scale investigation into the allegation of assault by police officers.

"I take all complaints against my officers seriously and in the event where there is a criminal breach, they will face the full brunt of the law," he said.

"In cases where police officers breach the procedures and practices, they will be dealt with severely internally through our disciplinary process.

"The uniform a police officer wears does not give them unlimited powers to do as they please and officers must work within the confines of the law," warned Mr Narayan.
