Drainage a problem

ONE of the major causes of flooding in the Central Division is poor drainage system, says Commissioner Central Lieutenant Colonel Laisenia Tuitubou.

He said stakeholders would meet to discuss immediate solutions to the problem.

"We will be meeting with the municipal council, Fiji Roads Authority and the drainage board under the Land and Water Resources Management to discuss this serious issue," Lt-Col Tuitubou said.

"There is a strategy in place in trying to overcome this problem which has been affecting those in the Central Division the most."

He said they would look into those areas that were always affected and find solutions before the division experienced another flood.

"Areas that were affected by poor drainage system were Vuci South, Kuku Village, Wailoku, Veisari, Qauia, Lami and Ratu Kadavulevu Rd in Nausori," he said.

"We need to look into the blockages because people are being affected."
