Commission focuses on Supervisor of Elections

A SUPERVISOR of Elections will be appointed by the end of this month.

That is the confirmation from Electoral Commission chairman Chen Bunn Young who said the appointment was a priority.

"The Supervisor of Elections is a priority for us and I have had continuing dialogue with the Attorney-General on this," Mr Young said.

He said the Electoral Commission was aware that the supervisor had to be appointed as soon as possible.

"We can't have him one month before the election. That will be ridiculous," he said.

Mr Young also revealed the majority of the vacancies in the Elections Office were filled.

"I think the first round of interviews has been completed. We are doing the second round now."

He said the commission also offered some contracts.

"The only thing that is left outstanding is the background check of their referees.

"But we have already identified a good number of full-time staff," he said.
