Lucky to be alive

A DRIVER is lucky to be alive after the vehicle he was driving ran off the road and into a drain at Vatuwaqa in Suva on Monday.

Witness Ashnil Prasad said he was on his way to work when he saw the accident.

"The driver seemed to have been over-speeding and he seemed to have lost control of the vehicle which caused it to veer of the road," he said.

"I was lucky to have been walking on the other side of the road because he drove the vehicle right into a driveway and into the drain.

"Luckily, he did not hit anyone on the road or another vehicle."

Police spokeswoman Ana Naisoro advised drivers to take necessary precaution on the roads.

"In light of the current weather spell, road conditions will be hazardous particularly for those who continue to speed and drive recklessly on our roads," Ms Naisoro said.

"Those who ignore simple road safety rules are not only putting themselves in danger but other road users also."
