New reservoir for area

Salaseini Moceiwai
Wednesday, March 12, 2014

A NEW water reservoir is expected to be constructed by the Water Authority of Fiji at Rara Housing in Lajonia, Labasa this year.

WAF regional manager Northern Romulusi Mataitoga told members of the Macuata Provincial Development Board meeting yesterday that the Housing Authority had offered a piece of land for the proposed project.

"We are going to build a 3mega-litre reservoir at the site," he said.

"With this reservoir being constructed, we also plan to increase our coverage towards the South-end and this will cover Wailevu Tiri and other nearby areas.

"This is among other projects we will be working on this year."

For Nasealevu, Mr Mataitoga said they had upgraded the mains last year.

"The reason why residents in Labasa continued to experience intermittent water supply recently was because of the upgrading works. We had to replace all the old pipes."
