Bail denied

Siteri Sauvakacolo
Saturday, March 08, 2014

A MAN accused of rape was denied bail by the High Court in Suva yesterday and was told to enjoy the comfort of the new remand facility in Korovou.

The accused, 39, appeared before High Court judge Justice Salesi Temo when reasons for his bail denial were read out in court.

Justice Temo in his judgment said he saw no reason for the accused to be at liberty and that his bail chances were very slim considering the seriousness of the offence.

The court heard that the accused, who was a police officer, had gone to investigate the theft of a mobile phone when he allegedly committed the rape.

The man faces four counts of rape.
