TAVARUA Island Resort has been named the Most Exotic Beach in the 2014 Best Beach Award by US-based The Travel Channel.

The Travel Channel — a leading international travel broadcaster transmitting 24 hours a day in 21 languages across the US, Europe, Middle East, Africa and the Asia Pacific region — announced this in a statement this week.

Tavarua Island Resort general manager Kaeo Dechape told The Travel Channel that they were honoured by this recognition.

"We hope that it brings further attention to Fiji as a destination for the variety of travellers that the channel attracts."

Alison's Adventures host Alison Teal told The Travel Channel that one could dive, fish, snorkel and surf in the crystal clear seas surrounding the vibrant coral reefs.

"As an avid surfer, it's a dream come true to sit along the white sandy beach and then head out into a world-class surf break. The moment that sealed my love affair with this place is when I saw it from the sky: the island is shaped perfectly like a heart."

Resort managing director Jon Roseman said, "We are very honoured to receive this award, and more importantly, it dictates to the world how wonderful and unique Fiji's beaches are."

Tavarua Island Resort has been in operation for more than 30 years, and for the past two years has been the host of the Fiji Pro International Surf contest.

The private island resort has undergone some extensive renovations to its restaurant and bar to accommodate its guests.

Offering a unique experience including surfing, fishing and snorkeling, Tavarua caters to an international clientele looking for something special.
