Update: 1:55PM TODAY marks the 23rd anniversary of a strike by gold miners of the Emperor Gold Mining company.

More than 400 gold miners walked off their jobs in Vatukoula on February 27, 1991 in protest against some issues.

Fiji Mine Workers Union general secretary Hansy Peters said a get-together is planned for the striking miners and their families tomorrow.

Of the 420 gold miners who went on strike, 81 have died so far.
