THE office of the Commissioner Western's office is working closely with the Ministry of Education to assess the need to activate evacuation centres in schools.

In a meeting with divisional heads in Lautoka today, Commander Joeli Cawaki said the ministry had been alerted to be ready if the need arose.

"We are working with the Education Ministry and they will step in if the need arises for us to activate evacuation centers in schools," he said.

Minister for National Disaster Management Lieutenant-Colonel Inia Seruiratu said people should prepare well for the incoming bad weather.

While in Lautoka earlier yesterday, Lt Col Seruiratu said the important message for people was for them to be ready.

The minister was in the West yesterday to meet with government officials from the division.
