Sean crowned top angler

SEAN Punja won the top male angler title during the Denarau Game Sports Fishing Club competition in Nadi on Sunday.

He scored a total of 150 points.

Sean, fishing on the boat Patriot, hauled in the biggest catch of the day.

He landed a 49.4kilogram yellow fin tuna using a 24kg line class.

Michelle Voss won the top female angler award. She scored 132 points.

Voss, fishing on board Salsa, caught a yellow fin tuna weighing 13.2kg and two mahimahi weighing 10.2kg each.

Thakor Punja was named the top junior angler scoring 21.6 points.

The competition was the second held by the club after the successful hosting of the Tuna Levu Classic last month.

After two rounds, Mike Schmit leads the male division with 530.4 points. Jerry Tommy is second with 300 points followed by Geoff Doig in third position with 262 points.

Club secretary Jared Wood is fourth with 217 points followed by Sean in fifth position with 204.6 points.

Voss leads the female category with 338.2 points. She is followed by Janet with 116.4 points.

Alona McElrath and Yvette Hook are tied in third spot with 51 points each.

Thakor leads the junior angler category with 71.2 points.

Grady White leads the big boat category with 670.8 points. Salsa is second with 408.4 points and Heatwave is third with 401.6 points.

Tommy 1 leads the small boat category with 416.4 points. Black Watch is second with 168.2 points followed by Oktimokti with 166 points.

The next tournament is scheduled for March 30.
