Marist 7s showdown

Upashnil Devi
Wednesday, February 26, 2014

TOP local teams are set to feature in the 38th Fiji Bitter Marist 7s at the ANZ Stadium next week Friday and Saturday.

The tournament organising committee yesterday released the names of the final 64 teams that will take part in the competition.

Teams such as Red Rock, Tokatoka Resort Westfield Babas, Wardens Gold, Ratu Filise and Yamacia will participate in the tournament.

Marist Rugby Club president Lawrence Tikaram in a statement said: "The task to make the final 64 teams has been a tough one, as once again many teams will be left out which is disappointing.

"The organisers would have valued more teams to participate but logistics, time and quality of the tournament had to be taken into account.

"We sincerely apologise to the teams and most especially the players that did not make it and hope next year most of them will be part of the tournament by fulfilling the registration criteria, which was accepting the first sixty four (64) teams that paid in full."

Tikaram said apart from the top teams, they also had two overseas teams along with a number of upcoming clubs taking part in the tournament.
