Trial date vacated

Shalveen Chand
Tuesday, February 25, 2014

THE trial date set for a father charged with the manslaughter of his daughter was vacated yesterday.

The High Court in Suva was informed by the defence counsel that accused Vilikesa Rinavuaka would not be able to attend court because he was in an operating theatre undergoing heart surgery.

Lawyer Naipote Vere said he arrived yesterday morning from Taveuni and was informed of the development regarding his client.

Mr Vere submitted a medical report to the court which Justice Salesi Temo said he would accept even though it was not a prescribed form of the court.

Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions Michael Delaney said the prosecution should have been informed earlier.
