Race for number 1

Shayal Devi
Saturday, February 22, 2014

SUVA golfer Olaf Allen Jr will be out to maintain his number one status during the second national trial at the Nadi Airport Golf Club today.

Allen Jr leads the race with 25 points and is followed by Abid Hussain on 20 points and Vijay Krishna Singh on 17 points.

The trials are being held to select the national side to play in the World Amateur Teams Championship in Japan in September.

National Golf Association of Fiji secretary Amitesh Chandra said 15 players were part of the national training squad.

Chandra said the parent body had set bench mark scores during the trials.

"We don't want to send players overseas just for the sake of it," he said.

The two-day 36 holes trial will tee off at 12pm.
