A 38-year-old man is in police custody following an early morning knifing incident that killed a man and injured two women yesterday at Kilikali Settlement in Nepani, Nasinu.

Police yesterday confirmed the two women were admitted in hospital.

The dead man was allegedly stabbed and left to bleed on an apartment floor by the attacker who later surrendered himself to police.

The two women who were allegedly in the flat with the man at the time of the incident about 2am.

They received injuries — one to her body and the other to her face.

Neighbours claim a cane knife was used during the attack.

Landlord Laisani Kumar claimed the dead man was married. "The woman who owns the flat is my tenant," she said.

"I was sleeping at the time it happened when I heard one of the tenants and my husband's brother's wife talking and they told me to come to the back of my house and see what was going on."

Mrs Kumar, who is a cousin of the dead man, said the sight that met her was one of horror and she rang the police immediately.

"When I looked in, the lady who was involved with the man who had been stabbed was sitting at the door and she had a swollen face and there was also blood all over her face and arms.

"The man, my cousin, was lying down behind her."

Mrs Kumar claimed the man who committed the act was the husband of one of the women who was stabbed yesterday.

In a statement yesterday, Police spokesman Inspector Atunaisa Sokomuri said the perpetrator was now in their custody.
