A PROJECT in Ba to help women make jewellery out of mother of pearl shells is showing positive results.

Social Welfare, Women and Poverty Alleviation permanent secretary Dr Josefa Koroivueta said the ministry began working with the Ba Women's Forum last year in a pilot project assisted by researchers from Adelaide University and the USP.

"They were selected by the ministry for this research team to help them look into developing the mother of pearl jewellery industry in Fiji," Dr Koroivueta said.

He said members of the Ba Women's Forum were designing jewellery.

The jewellery project is one designed for coastal women as an alternative source of income.
