Sapphire shines at Jasper

Maciu Malo
Saturday, February 15, 2014

JASPERIAN flyer Asenaca Kedraika fisted the air with joy and excitement as soon as she crossed the finish line to help her Sapphire House 4x100m inter girls relay team win the Jasper Williams High School inter-house competition.

Kedraika blitzed the grass track after receiving the baton from the third runner to edge her fellow competitors which included Coca-Cola Games 400m inter-girls champion Mereseini Vukici at Lautoka Methodist School grounds yesterday.

The gold medal race gave Sapphire the edge to win 10 gold medals ahead of Pearl, Jade and Topaz who all finished with nine gold medals.

Ruby House finished last with eight gold medals.

But despite the loss, Vukici stamped her mark in her favourite event and shattered a new 400m inter-girl's record for the school.

Three records were broken yesterday.
