Schools gear up for dengue fight

Jone Kalouniviti
Wednesday, February 12, 2014

SCHOOLS in the Western Division already have a program in place to help eliminate the threat of dengue fever.

Divisional education officer Western Lorima Vorovoro said this was incorporated into the school extra-curricular activities.

"In the west, we have a program called the Clean Schools Program where we focus on the 3R's of reduce, reuse and recycle concepts to help keep the school compound clean," Mr Vorovoro said.

"We know that the dengue disease has not fully hit the Western Division and we do not know why that is the case, but at the moment this is what we have in our schools to help eliminate this threat for our children."

Mr Vorovoro said while the Ministry of Health was leading the charge on this, it must be stressed that everyone should be responsible for their environment to stop the spread of this disease.

"We need to work together because it can infect any community."
