Deaconess celebrate anniversary

By Nanise Loanakadavu
Monday, February 10, 2014

Update: 3:09PM AS part of the Methodist Churchs 50th celebration, a special church service will be held today by the churchs Deaconess Order to mark its 47th anniversary.

The Deaconess Order was founded by Pauline Campbell in 1967 as a religious order for women, who at that time could not be ordained as ministers in the church.

Ms Campbell was also an advocate for the acceptance of women as ministers.

The church service will be held at Reverend Edward Caleb Church in Suva at 3.30pm followed by the launch of a handbook for Deaconesses and student Deaconesses.
