Wainibuka farmer drowns

Update: 12:52PM A FARMER is dead after he drowned while trying to cross the Wainibuka River using a rope tied from his neck to a piece of timber.

Police spokesman Inspector Atunaisa Sokomuri said the 64-year-old man was trying to cross the river with his daughter and two grandsons when the incident occurred.

Insp Sokomuri said a search was conducted and the deceased body was found submerged and attempts to revive him were unsuccessful.

He said the deceased body was at the Korovou mortuary awaiting a post mortem examination.
