NZ embassy celebrate Waitangi Day

Update: 12:00PM THE New Zealand High Commission last night hosted the Waitangi Day marking the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi in 1840.

Acting head of mission Mark Ramsden said in that year representatives of the British Crown and over 500 Maori chiefs signed what is often considered to be New Zealands founding document.

Mr Ramsden said last night's event was also special because it was his first official gathering since to took up his role as the acting head of mission.

Members of the diplomatic corps, senior government officials and heads of regional and international organisations attended the event.
