Transport charges review

Felix Chaudhary
Thursday, February 06, 2014

RESTRUCTURING of cane lorry transport charges will be one of the key changes government will implement this season.

Sugar permanent secretary Lieutenant Colonel Manasa Vaniqi said for too long cane growers had been at the mercy of lorry operators and the ad hoc manner with which they were charged for transportation of cane often placed them at a serious disadvantage.

"The Fiji Sugar Corporation executive chairman, Abdul Khan, has mentioned this a number of times and this is an area that has to be regulated because transport is one of the biggest costs to growers," he said.
